It has been a great first few days of Summer Explorers in the music room!!
Our beginners have successfully learned how to assemble their instruments, hold their instruments, produce a sound, and play 3 notes! Today the woodwind and bell players played "Hot Cross Buns" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb." I look forward to next week when we begin learning the steps to reading music. The beginning percussionists have got the beat!! They are successfully playing quarter and half note rests and rhythms. Today everyone got the chance to experiment with the bass drum.
The 5th grade musicians have been busy clapping and counting eighth note rhythms, learning about staccato articulation, and beginning to rehearse some band music. "Starfire March" has a very catchy melody!
The 6th grade musicians have been brushing up on their Bb and Eb concert scales, clapping and counting sixteenth note rhythms and beginning to rehearse music in a variety of musical genres. Get ready for our end of camp concert that will feature some African Music, patriotic tunes, and songs from the 18th century!
Have a great long weekend and don't forget to practice!!
Ms. Innis
